A pour on or brush on ComposiMold mold is a simple way to create a flexible mold directly over a model or object without needing a traditional mold box. With Pour-on molds you can use less ComposiMold rubber and still get the good details. The big advantage is that ComposiMold can be remelted and reused, so the mold doesn't have to be thrown away after making your castings. For large or complicated molds, you can also reinforce the outside with a support shell or other rigid backing.
Pour-On Method
- Prepare the original – Place your object on a flat, nonporous surface. Seal porous materials if necessary.
- Melt ComposiMold – Heat it until completely melted and fluid. Avoid overheating.
- Apply the first layer – Pour a thin layer over the object, allowing the ComposiMold to flow around the details and capture the surface. The cooler the ComposiMold, while still being liquid, will make build up the layers faster.
- Build up the mold – Let each layer cool and thicken slightly before adding the next. Continue until you have enough material for a sturdy mold.
- Cool completely – Allow the mold to fully solidify.
- Remove the original – Flex the ComposiMold and carefully remove your original.
- Cast your material – Pour resin, plaster, wax, or another compatible casting material into the reusable mold.
